I spent the weekend at my favorite place on earth. There is just something about Hawaii that feels like home. The island breezes, crystal blue water, the freshest pineapple and coconut you could ever have, and laid back vibes that instantly put you in a good mood. I drove up to the north shore and spent the day wandering around with no agenda and no expectations. I missed the swell and monster waves by two days but had the best time exploring Waialua, Haleiwa, Waimea Bay and the Banzai Pipeline. Yeah brudda!
If you are looking for a place to eat the north shore is jam packed with food trucks, snack shacks, and family owned bakeries. My favorite? Waialua Bakery without a doubt. This colorful bakery not only serves the most delicious baked goods, sandwiches, acai bowls, and more but the establishment is also decorated with positive affirmations and adorable artwork. The produce is fresh, the bakery treats are to die for, and the good vibes can be found here.
This section of the island is awesome because it has not been taken over by high rises and tourism. Yes, you will get a lot of traffic through this area but you also get that small town feel. There are little shops and stands all over and the scenery is breathtaking. On one side you have the country and the other you have the incredible waves of the north shore. Come here on a big swell day and you can watch some of the world’s most famous professional surfers doin their thing. Good people, good food, good surf. I mean really what’s not to love?
